Description: For Tristan Hart, everything changes with one crashing wave.
He was gone for three days. Sucked out to sea in a tidal wave and spit back ashore at Coney Island with no memory of what happened. Now his dreams are haunted by a terrifying silver mermaid with razor-sharp teeth.
His best friend Layla is convinced something is wrong. But how can he explain he can sense emotion like never before? How can he explain he's heir to a kingdom he never knew existed? That he's suddenly a pawn in a battle as ancient as the gods.
Something happened to him in those three days. He was claimed by the sea...and now it wants him back. (Taken from Goodreads.com)
My Review: I wasn’t quite sure what to expect when I picked up this book to start reading. The cover looked so cool (yes, I judge books by their covers) that I thought I might really like it. But the author is new and this is her debut novel, so I was worried that it might not be good. And I’ve never read any books about mermaids before, so I wasn’t sure how I was going to like it. Well…it was good. It was really good actually. It took me a little while to get into it, because I thought the idea of a teenage boy turning into a mermaid (or merman, rather) was kind of silly and it was, but it was also really interesting. I enjoyed reading a book from a male perspective, because there are very few books that I have read that way. I thought it was really interesting seeing how he realized what was going on and how he was connected to the ocean. There were some parts of the story that seemed unnecessary or just completely random to what was going on, but it all worked in the end. I assume there is going to be another book because there was next to nothing resolved in this one (which kind of annoyed me, but whatever). Overall, I enjoyed the book. It was a quick read with quite a bit of action. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
My Rating: I really liked it
