Description:
Don’t Sweat.  Don’t Laugh.  Don’t draw attention to yourself.  And most of all, whatever you do, do not fall in love with one of them.

Gene is different from everyone else around him.  He can’t run with lightning speed, sunlight doesn’t hurt him and he doesn’t have an unquenchable lust for blood.  Gene is a human, and he knows the rules.  Keep the truth a secret.  It’s the only way to stay alive in a world of night—a world where humans are considered a delicacy and hunted for their blood.

When he’s chosen for a once in a lifetime opportunity to hunt the last remaining humans, Gene’s carefully constructed life begins to crumble around him.  He’s thrust into the path of a girl who makes him feel things he never thought possible—and into a ruthless pack of hunters whose suspicions about his true nature are growing. Now that Gene has finally found something worth fighting for, his need to survive is stronger than ever—but is it worth the cost of his humanity?

My Review: I admit it...I judge books by their covers. Looking at the cover of this one I thought I would like it. Then I received my First Reads copy in the mail and the cover was different. I was not so impressed with it and I thought "this book is going to be cheesy." Well, guess what...the cover pictured here was TOTALLY RIGHT. I really liked this book! Gene is a human living among vampires and trying his hardest to go unnoticed. Then when he is randomly chosen to be a part of a "heper hunt" (a hunt for humans) things get really interesting. There were tons of twists and turns in this book that I never saw coming (especially the very last line of the story). I think Andrew Fukuda did a fantastic job of telling a story that I found entertaining, heartbreaking, terrifying and even disgusting (at times). I really enjoyed this book much more than I anticipated an I look forward to more books in the series.

My Rating:  Really Liked It
